Simplicity 1782 – A new skirt

This pattern is okay. There is nothing special about it.

Did you know that I hate gathering? It never comes out the way I think it should. And, yet, I pick patterns that involve gathers.

Simplicity 1782

Why is her shirt 1/2 tucked in?

Pattern Description:
From the website: Misses’ easy to sew full skirt in four lengths, with yoke and side zipper. Skirt can be made in mini, knee, mid calf, and ankle length with side front slit or decorative front panel options.
SUGGESTED FABRICS: Laundered cottons, sateen, challis, crepe back satin, jacquards, landered silk-rayons, gauze, double georgette, soft lightweight linen and linen blends.

Why doesn’t Simplicity say “Suggested Fabrics: lightweight, softly draping woven fabric”?

Pattern Sizing:
Simplicity sizes 14 to 22. I made the size 22.

I used a tip from Sandra Betzina and made the yokes out of denim before making the skirt. I suppose that worked. I mean I picked the right size the first time.

I also followed her tip for making the side seams 2″ instead of 5/8″. If I do that again, the zipper is going to have to move from the side. I ended up taking out the 2″.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I sewed the slit closed.

I read thru them before I started, but I didn’t look at them again. I used this tute for putting in an invisible zipper with a facing.

Fabric Used:
A silky given to me by a BABES. Isn’t it lovely? I usually pass on polyester fabric, but this one, I coveted it.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I probably won’t sew it again. Did I mention the gathers? I hate gathering.

It’s an easy skirt to sew and would be a good project for beginners.

It’s an okay pattern.
